Well hello, hello!

Have you survived the Christmas/Chanukah craze? Right before the holiday rush my friend Nicola from For The Love of Jars tagged me in her Christmas tag. Now that things have calmed down a bit, I can reflect on the holidays and answer these questions.

What’s your favourite Christmas movie?

I guess I would say A Christmas Story. It’s a bit long but its a story about an average kid living a normal life. My favorite scene is the Santa one.

Have you ever had a white Christmas?

One year my family and I went to Montreal, Canada for Christmas. It was a white Christmas but I don’t remember what year it was.

Where do you usually spend your holiday?

I usually spend it family juggling. Most of the time here in NYC (Brooklyn and Queens) and sometimes in Philly and other times upstate NY.

What is your favourite Christmas song?

There’s just sooo many. After Thanksgiving I have Christmas music playing everyday. My top five are:

  1. “Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas Time” by Paul McCartney
  2. “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas”
  3. “You’re a Mean One Mister Grinch”
  4. Blue Christmas  by Elvis Presley
  5. I can’t for the life of me remember the name of the song. But it’s awesome.

Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?

Yes! My partner and his family have a late Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve and then at midnight its show time!

Can you name all of Santa’s Reindeer?

Probably not. How many are there? Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Dancer, Rudolph ???

Which holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?

I don’t really have any holiday traditions. Maybe it’s time to start some. Oh actually, in South America or maybe just Colombia (where my partner’s mother is from), there is this thing called Novena. The nine days prior to Christmas there is a celebration of prayers, music and food. Each night a different family hosts the novena. We also give gifts (socks, puzzles, books) to the little children. It’s really cool because the prayers brings us back to Earth on the reason for the season.

Is your Christmas tree real or fake?

Argh, don’t remind me. My tree was fake . Wanted a real one. It’s a long story….

What is your all time favourite holiday treat/food/sweet?

Don’t really have one. I like pumpkin pie. There’s a Haitian drink called Cremas. It’s like Bailey’s Irish cream but thicker. I haven’t gotten a chance to have it this year.

Be honest, do you like giving or receiving gifts better?

I like giving gifts. Not to brag but I’m really thoughtful and pay attention to details. So I usually hit the mark when getting gifts.

What is the best Christmas present you ever received?

One year my godmother gave me a microscope when I was in elementary school. Best …gift… EVER!!!

What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?

Someplace warm! The place doesn’t really matter to me, just as long as I am with my family and friends.

Are you a pro present wrapper or do you fail miserably?

I’m somewhere in the middle, closer to the pro section. Sometimes I have low patience and I’m like whatever. (This is when gift bags come in handy.)

Most memorable Christmas moment?

I have two memorable moments. The first one is a bit sad. When I was seven my mother passed away. The first Christmas without her was memorable. I was surrounded by such love, my aunts, uncles, and cousins from New Jersey came over. The Christmas tree could barely stand, there were so many presents!

The second memorable Christmas was my first Christmas with my boyfriend. This was the first time I had a real Christmas tree. Since my birthday is the 26th they got me a Christmas themed birthday cake, it was Santa stuck on the chimney.

What made you realise the truth about Santa?

I never  really believed in Santa. My family is religious and Christmas was mostly about  honoring Jesus and spending time with family. We had gifts from Santa and went along with it but deep down I knew the truth.

What makes the holidays special for you?

I truly enjoy the holiday music and cheer. I like the time off from work and spending time with family. The decorations are cool as well. I could do without the presents. It makes everything so stressful and can get a bit pricey. I wish we could just give each other cards or letters!

I nominate Dina from Dish With Dina .

Until next time,

Salut!
