It feels like just yesterday we were saying “Happy new year!”, and now its June already! I like to think of June as hump month. With the weather changing and summer quickly approaching June is a great time to think about the months that has past and the months to come.

One of the many challenges in having a healthy lifestyle is that we sometimes “bite off more than we can chew”. I, myself,  have fallen for this trap. Last month, I planned all these wonderful things and ideas for May but found a hard time executing them. This is because I took a lot on my plate.  I often think about how often we say, “Okay, tomorrow I’m going to start eating healthy, go to the gym, budget my money better, drink less, look for a new job, sleep more…” The list can go on and on.

So this month take the time to create smaller steps to reach your bigger goal. For example, if your goal is to go to the gym, pick a day and time that you will go during the week. After you pick the day and time, think about any obstacles that might get in your way or any excuses you may have. Here are some examples of excuses: I’m too tired from work, I forgot to bring my lock for the locker, I don’t have my water, I need to work on this assignment. Make sure you set things to combat those excuses.

Excuse 1: I’m too tired from work. Go to the gym in the morning before work. 

Excuse 2: I forgot to bring my lock for the locker.  Try to pack your gym bag the night before so this won’t happen.

Excuse 3: I don’t have my water. Most gyms have water fountains so see if you can bring a empty water bottle from work and refill it at the gym.
