Sometimes you just need to take a pause from everyday life and just be…

[Sponsored post: I’m pumped to be working with prAna clothing store to bring you this post.]

I have a confession to make…well, actually more of a secret to reveal. If you ask anyone who knows me they will all tell you that I’m an anxious worry-wart. With all that’s been going on in the United States and abroad I have gotten a bit scared to go outside and just enjoy life. And to top it all off I’ve put on some pounds in the tummy area and I’ve been feeling super self-conscious about it.

You’re probably wondering what does this have to do with nutrition? Well… a lot actually. Stress has been shown to have a lot of negative effects on health and can cause weight gain and make it hard to lose weight as well. Also if you are not in the right place mentally your body tends to suffer. We start to crave junk food or stress eat. So to get me out of my funk I decided to spend a whole weekend worry free and go out and explore. Here’s how it went….

Saturday:

I usually spend Saturdays cleaning the apartment, doing chores and rotating between sleeping and watching Netflix. But I decided that this weekend “I’m going to go out and I’m going to be glam!”  What does a girl wear on a day being out and about?

When I first saw my dress I thought to myself, “ohhh noooo, how am I gonna fit this dress?” But when I slipped into it I immediately felt like a goddess. I love the way it hugged my hips and flowed down. For the whole day, I felt like I was Aphrodite floating amongst mere mortals! Because I felt so lovely in the dress I decided to go the extra mile and put up a little bit of make-up.

R and I decided to celebrate National Best Friend Day by going to the Highline Park. She’s never been there and there is a food stand called La Sonrisa that has the greatest coconut curry empanada on Earth. On our way to the Highline, a group of guys in front of us were talking about a rooftop. We randomly got on the line and ended up on a rooftop bar! It was so cool! The views of the city were nice and there was a pool.

Sunday:

Although I felt awesome in my dress, I noticed some flab action happening. So when I woke up Sunday morning I went to the park and did some light exercises. I tried to do suicide exercises with my bf but the both of us are out of shape. At the risk of sounding conceited, I felt great! The shirt was provided to me by prAna. I don’t really wear strappy clothes but it was nice to see how my back looked in it. Since the shirt was lightweight it was perfect to help keep me dry from all the sweat.

After exercising I rushed to Governor’s Island (by my lonesome), to check out the Jazz Lawn Age Party. I ended up getting there late but the ferry ride was relaxing.

It’s important to look at wellness as a whole. After this weekend I feel a bit more relaxed. I had fun being random on Saturday and ferry riding on Sunday. This weekend reminded me that it’s okay treat myself and it doesn’t have to be associated with food.

  1. I’ve also put on some pounds in the tummy area (still blaming the DI) and I know how you feel about being anxious and sometimes forgetting about self-care. Thanks for sharing all of this! I love the dress, I love the High Line, and I love the spontaneity about just getting up and seeing where the day leads you, especially when it involves using the city as your gym. Haha!

    1. Thanks for reading Dina! Hopefully we can “randomly” catch up with some gelato (since it’s officially too hot for our coffee date). Also don’t forget to check out the prAna site. See if there’s anything that tickles your fancy!

A lot of times we don't realize how much our mental and emotional well being effects our physical health. Stress can cause us to overeat, gain weight, lose sleep, lose hair, lose weight, etc. This past weekend I took a wellness weekend and just destressed. Check out my site (link above) to see where the thought "why not?" randomly led me.
